During an official visit to Luxembourg by Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon and accompanying delegation, the talks centred on strengthening bilateral relations, on human rights, as well as on economic and financial issues, culminating in the signing of a bilateral double taxation agreement (DTA) between the two countries.

A joint declaration aiming to strengthen bilateral relations between Luxembourg and Tajikistan was also adopted.

According to the Luxembourg government, the discussions focussed on economic and financial cooperation between the two countries as well as on air links. Within this context the government notes in its release that a bilateral double taxation agreement between Tajikistan and Luxembourg was signed by Luxembourg’s Finance Minister Luc Frieden and his Tajikistan counterpart Safarali Nadjmouddinov.

The government confirms that the bilateral DTA provides for an effective exchange of information upon request in individual cases between the tax administrations of the two countries, and notes that the agreement is in complete accordance with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Model Convention.

The government points out that Luxembourg’s Development and Infrastructure Minister Claude Wiseler and Tajikistan’s Foreign Affairs Minister Khamrohkon Zarifi also signed an agreement as well as a Memorandum of Understanding in the area of aviation.

Commenting on the talks, Tajikistan’s President Rahmon underlined the fact that the relationship between the two countries is marked by “mutual friendship”, and alluded to the importance that Tajikistan attaches to developing relations with Luxembourg, a country which plays a key role in terms of economic, political and industrial policy.
